What attracted you to work in the field of dermatology?
"I have always been drawn to the fields of science and healthcare, but ultimately decided to pursue a career in Dermatology for many reasons. I grew up visiting dermatologists due to a family history of melanoma, and I was always so impressed with the dedication and kindness shown by my doctor. When I was in Medical school, my grandfather was diagnosed with a recurrent melanoma and witnessing his struggles pushed me to look into the field further to prevent others from experiencing the same pain. Beyond my personal reasons, I found that Dermatology is the perfect field for me because it combines complex medical care and surgery, two of my favorite aspects of medicine. No two patients are exactly the same and it is a specialty that consistently challenges and humbles us."
How long have you been practicing?
Following 4 years of undergraduate schooling and 4 years of medical school, I completed a 1-year internship in internal Medicine and just completed a 3-year residency in Dermatology.
Where are you originally from?
How do you like to spend your time off/do you have any hobbies?
I spend my off time with my husband and two Shiba Inu dogs. I enjoy running, playing tennis and discovering new music.
What is your number one recommendation for people wanting to maintain healthy skin?
Sunscreen and moisturizer!
Do you have a favorite product? If yes, why?
- For moisturizing, I love VaniCream products because I have very dry, sensitive skin.
- For sunscreen, I like EltaMD products and Avene complex correcting shield mineral sunscreen.
What is your favorite thing about working at Skin Solutions Dermatology?
The camaraderie, professionalism and dedication to the highest quality patient care.
In closing, describe yourself in 3 words!
Friendly, dependable, dedicated
Welcome Marsha to the management team!
We’d like to highlight our wonderful Human Resources Director, Marsha Sparkmon, who joined the Skin Solutions Dermatology team this past spring. Marsha not only brings her invaluable HR experience to the team, but also a joyful smile and personality.
Originally from Charleston in the West Virginia area, Marsha and her family moved to Franklin, Tennessee, 22 years ago this month. Like the rest of the local community, she has been amazed by how much Nashville has changed since her initial move to the area. In her spare time, she enjoys photography, a skill Marsha developed in college and has since expanded her knowledge into digital photography techniques and Photoshop.
This summer Marsha entered one of her photos (below) in the Williamson County Fair and won first prize! We could not be more excited for her or more proud. It is a beautiful photo and a great accomplishment.
Dr. Pena, Kelly, and Cassie Volunteer for Destination Healthy Skin
This month Skin Solutions Dermatology was invited by the Skin Cancer Foundation to provide the Nashville community with free skin cancer spot checks!
The “Destination Healthy Skin” tour bus stopped in Nashville on August 4th, and Dr. Pena (right), Kelly Caudle, PA-C (left), and Cassie Tramel, NP (center), volunteered their time and expertise to the cause. Successful skin cancer prevention is achieved by educating yourself, using proper sun protection, and being proactive by getting annual skin exams. We were grateful to be able to offer these spot checks to the community at no cost at this event.
