The Perfect Pout - How To Get Started With Lip Fillers

Dermal fillers are one of the best things in our arsenal of anti-aging weaponry.  Don’t get me wrong, the aging process is something that we ultimately cannot combat in its entirety, and honestly wouldn’t want to!  (Would you REALLY like to look 18 forever)?  Sure, there are definitely some traits we love about youthful appearances, but there is also a lot to be said for beautiful life experiences and being able to buy a drink at the bar when you forgot your ID…

What Makes Dermal Fillers So Great?

- They are a non-surgical option

- They are not permanent (both a blessing and a curse!)

- They offer a youthful boost without losing the essence of what makes you look like – well, YOU!  Maintain your individuality.

Curious?  I don’t blame you!  The best way to learn more about dermal fillers, what they can do, and if they are a good fit for you, is to simply schedule a consultation.  We have a number of exceptional aesthetic healthcare providers at Skin Solutions Dermatology, who will listen to your needs, and help you devise a treatment plan that fits your aesthetic goals in a safe and effective manner.  Before you call to schedule though, I’ve addressed a number of frequently asked questions regarding one of our most popular requests, lip filler!  Below you will find information to get you started, and some beautiful before and after photos, the work of our very own medical provider, Hannah Sitter, located in our Brentwood office!

What Is Filler?

First, there are a number of different fillers out there!  Your medical provider will help educate you on which kind is best suited for your goals.  At Skin Solutions Dermatology we use the Juvéderm collection, they are the number one selling collection of Hyaluronic acid fillers.  Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance in the skin that delivers nutrients, helps retain moisture, maintains softness, and adds volume to your appearance.  It is a smooth, crystal clear gel.

Here (above) we have Hannah Sitter’s patient, before and after her first lip filler appointment, with beautiful results.

Hannah used just over ½ a syringe of Juvéderm Volbella in this initial session.

Save Yourself Heartache – Find A Good Provider

One of the most important steps is finding an experienced medical provider!  Don’t fall for the latest Groupon – this is an investment in yourself – quite literally.  We have a number of medical providers at Skin Solutions Dermatology who are experienced, know how to help you identify your aesthetic preferences, and put you on the right path.  Not everyone’s aesthetics are the same, you need to ensure you are on the same page, communication and experience is key!

What Is The Process Like?

Once you and your medical provider have come up with a treatment plan - you can move on to the fun part!  As excited as you are, we always advise patients to move slowly when it comes to lip filler, it is much easier to ADD more later than to take it away (though that is possible too – see below)!  The fillers themselves have some painkilling agents in them, and there are some steps you can take prior to your appointment to help reduce swelling of the injection area.  These are simple steps like eliminating any blood thinners that could contribute to major bruising (like anti-inflammatories, aspirin, fish oil, multivitamins) a week before your appointment.  Additionally, you can help reduce swelling by cutting out caffeine from your diet 24 hours before your appointment.  The appointment time for dermal fillers can be quite brief, ranging from 15 minutes to 60 minutes (depending on the appointment agenda).  One of my favorite parts about lip filler appointments is that you will see results instantly!

How Much Does Lip Filler Cost?

This is a commonly asked question with all dermal fillers and unfortunately there is no cookie cutter answer!  The cost is simply dependent on how much of the product is used.  The amount of product used is dependent on the specific patients’ aesthetics, size of face or features, etc.  The best way to find out a cost for you, based on your aesthetics and facial features, is to come in for a consultation and fine tune your treatment plan with the medical provider.

What If You Don’t Like It?

It is extremely rare for us to have a patient get lip filler and then find they do not like it.  This is because we take the appropriate steps before we even think about making an injection.  We discuss what you are looking to achieve and ensure everyone is on the same page before proceeding.  However, should you find the look was not what you were wanting after all, hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that speeds up the degradation of hyaluronic acid, quickly and safely.  However, you would still be responsible for the cost of the lip filler used prior, but it’s nice to know that hyaluronidase exists if there was a time you needed it for any reason!

Lip fillers remain one of the post popular dermal fillers and for good reason.  They produce beautiful results, that leave patients feeling more confident, and leave family and friends wondering what the secret is...  It provides a subtle change but makes a big impact.  Just look at another set of before and after photos (below) from our provider Hannah Sitter, this is the same patient as above, but after another appointment.

The results speak for themselves.
