Pulse Dye Laser (PDL)

Pulse Dye Laser

The Pulse Dye Laser (PDL) is used to make skin tone more even.  The wide range of wavelengths possible allows very close matching to the absorption lines of certain tissues, such as melanin, while the narrow bandwidth obtainable helps reduce the possibility of damage to the surrounding tissue.

Frequently Asked Questions about the PDL:

Q:  What is PDL?

The Pulse Dye Laser is a beam of light used at a specific wavelength to treat conditions or spots on the skin which are made up of blood and blood vessels.

Q:  What is PDL used for?

This is an especially effective method for the treatment of port wine stains, birthmarks, cherry angiomas, some darker facial spider veins, and new surgical scars.

Q:  Who can be treated with the PDL?

This treatment is effective and appropriate for all ages and most skin types.

Q:  Is a consultation recommended?

A consultation is always recommended to make sure this is the best treatment option for you, and also to review and pre- and post-procedure skincare instructions.

Q:  Who performs the PDL treatment?

All PDL treatments are performed by one of our highly trained Laser Technicians.

Q:  How long is the treatment?

It is a quick treatment, usually only requiring a few minutes.

Q:  Is the PDL treatment painful?

Before the treatment, the area to be treated is numbed using a cooling vapor so any discomfort during the procedure is usually minimal.  The patient may feel some stinging, similar to the sensation of a rubber band snapping.

Q:  How will I look after the procedure?

The PDL may cause some bruising which can last anywhere from 7-14 days.  Make-up can be used to cover any areas of concern and make-up recommendations can be made by our trained cosmetic consultants.

Q:  How should I take care of my skin after the procedure?

You must wear a zinc based sunscreen daily and any further recommendations, if needed, will be specifically made for you on the day of your appointment by your consultant.

Q:  How many PDL treatments are needed?

The number of treatments will vary depending on the condition and area being treated.  Your treatment regimen will be determined and discussed with you at your free consultation.

Q:  How much does PDL treatment cost?

The cost of your treatment will be determined at you consultation.  Please contact our Pena MD Studio Appointment Center to schedule your free cosmetic consultation. The cost of PDL treatments may also vary depending on packages and specials.
